We Have A Choice...

John Ortberg -
"We have a choice in this life, we can d r i f t...get up, go to work, come home, eat supper, watch TV, retire & die OR WE CAN TAKE EACH MOMENT AND SAY, "GOD, THIS IS YOURS" and enter into the great adventure of life with God!"

"Investing in the Kingdom of God is the greatest opportunity we will ever have"!!
Oh Lord, this is such truth!!  I long to be out on a great adventure with you, helping your people and feeling the excitement of being used as your vessel and the potential of saved lost souls!!  The only thing that's stopping me from this God adventure is my fear...my fear of "stepping out of my boat" of safety and security that I have created apart from God...my home has become such a refuge for me, but also a prison...

John Ortberg also writes:  (Mathew 14:25-32)  "I believe there are many good reasons to get out of the boat.  But there is one that trumps them all:  The water is where Jesus is.  The water may be dark, wet and dangerous, but Jesus is NOT in the boat.  The main reason Peter got out of the boat is that he wanted to be where Jesus was.  I believe that God's general method for growing a deep, adventursome faith in us is by asking us to get out of the boat.  More than hearing a great talk, or reading a great book, God uses real-world challenges to develop our ability to trust in Him.  We tend to seek a world of comfort.  We try to construct managable lives with some security and predictability to maintain the illusion that we are in control.  THEN GOD "PASSES US BY" and shakes everything up.  The call to get out of the boat usually involves crisis, opportunity, sometimes failure, generally fear, sometimes suffering, BUT ALWAYS the calling of a task too big for us.  But there is no other way to grow faith and to partner with God.

Oh my God, your call to follow you completely, to surrender everything to you, including my boat of security, has definitely "shaken me up"!!  I pray that I can step out in complete faith and do whatever needs to be done according to Your perfect plan in all of this.  Love your daughter. Amen

Great blog, Sue. Thanks for reminding me that we can't, no matter how hard we try or decieve ourselves, create our own security. Complete surrender to Jesus is the only real security we have.
