We're not sure why He's calling us to Oahu...it's a beautiful place to visit (paradise!), but a very difficult place to live due to HIGH living costs, especially housing and LOW job income in general. In addition, there is a high level of drug usage and crime rates. We would not choose to move there due to these difficult circumstances, but know, without a doubt, that He is calling us there, so He must have His reasons! All we know is that our job is to be obedient to His call and not question Him. (We continue to get daily confirmations in this ever since we purchased our airline tickets for Oahu two weeks ago) Our son Chris is living there too so very excited to see him!
As you have probably heard, we believed that God was sending us to California. We were all set to go and the door closed in our faces! Slam! That left us not knowing what direction to go...instead we just settled in and waited. This was not easy for either of us! But He did amazing things in this time of waiting...with work, with relationships and stretching us to deeper levels of faith, relying on Him daily. We realized that our trust in the Lord was not as strong as we thought. It takes giving Him everything and allowing Him the "perfect freedom" in our lives, knowing we belong to Him and are to be concerned only about being faithful in that which He has given us to do for the moment. This is how we are learning to live our lives...moment by moment, with HIM. What a peaceful and joy-filled way to live.
We're excited to continue to share where God is taking us and the details along the way, including lots of pictures on this blog, so keep tuned. (Of course, that will be one of the great perks to going to Hawaii, endless new beautiful scenery for Sue to photograph and share with you all!)
We ask for your prayers...prayers that we are indeed in God's will, prayers for strength and courage and continued trust and faith in financial provision also that any doors that are not of Him, be closed. We want to be sure this is all HIM, and not us. Thank you, we love your prayer support...knowing we have so many praying for us keeps us going strong.
Because this is not a church-backed mission trip, we are funding this on our own. Our goal is to get the time necessary to reach out to those who are lost & hurting and need God. This takes time to build relationships and we need the financial backing in order to allow us this time. So we are asking that you pray about this and see if this is something that God lays on your heart to help fund. A one-time donation is wonderful or a monthly support would be a huge blessing. We both plan on working while there, but because of the economy on the island, it would take both of us to be working 2-3 jobs in order to stay about water.
